A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton has given her top tips on house hunting in the UK and how to spruce up your space over the Bank Holiday.

Laura is no stranger to house hunting after appearing on the hit Channel 4 show for nearly two decades and now she has some words of wisdom for those looking to relocate.

Speaking exclusively to virginradio.co.uk, she said: “I think if you're looking to buy at the moment in the UK, maybe because homes aren't coming on the market, think about a property that you've got your eye and you know knock on the door and find out if someone might be willing to sell it!

“I would also say right now with the UK market, maybe it’s a bit of a buyers market, don't get overexcited when putting in offers. If you can get a good mortgage deal right now on a on a good rate then it is a pretty good time to buy.”

Laura continued: “Also, when you're looking at a home not everyone considers you know asking about is the loft, if it’s boarded or you know, if it’s a usable space so look at those areas as well. And I'd always say to anyone go and visit a property at different times of the day just to see how different a place can be because if it's near school in particular in the morning, it might be busy with school traffic or if it's near a train station, how frequent are the trains?

“I would always say you know, go and look at different times of the day if you can do that.”

Of course, now might not be the best time to invest in something big like a new house but luckily Laura has some more tips on how to make your house feel fresh and new or even bigger.

She added: “The way to make a space that isn't that big, feel bigger, is the way it's decorated. In fact, you know, something that I've done in my home is when you actually decorate a room, think about painting the ceiling the same colour as the walls, so you kind of wrap the room.”

The presenter continued: “I would only just say that if anyone is thinking about organising or tidying up their home over this weekend, or in the coming months, do really consider the loft space. Loftzone.co.uk is kind of like your one stop shop for helping organise that space and they do everything from organisation to installation.”
