Wes Anderson’s hotly-anticipated new movie, Asteroid City, lands in cinemas next month, and it features a star-studded cast.

Ahead of the film making its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, a trio of new clips have been released, showcasing some of the big names that we can expect to see when it gets a general release on 23rd June.

The movie, which has a classic Wes Anderson aesthetic, is set in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. The narrative focuses on how the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (which was organised to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

One new clip shows Scarlett Johansson’s character, a famous actress with a daughter, calling out a photographer - played by Anderson favourite Jason Schwartzman - for taking her photo without permission.

Another clip shows Tom Hanks, Hope Davis and Liev Schreiber discussing the military’s plans for them while the latter uses some kind of ray gun.

“Maybe we should just walk out right now. I’m not sure they could stop us without killing somebody,” Hanks’ character says.

He then chooses an importune moment during a tense stand-off between Schreiber and a soldier to ask Hope Davis’ character, “Are you married.”

“Of course,” she replies.

The film’s incredible line-up also features Jeff Goldblum, Margot Robbie, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Rupert Friend, Steve Carell, and Matt Dillon.

Stephen Park, Jeffrey Wright, Hong Chau, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke also star.

The third new clip is another that features Scarlett Johansson.

The official trailer for Asteroid City was released in March.

Wes Anderson is acclaimed for his previous movies such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Rushmore.

As well as Asteroid City, the director also has another film coming out this year, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Asteroid City will hit cinemas on 23rd June.
