Strictly’s Amy Dowden shares sweet family dancing video showing her newly-shaved head

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has posted a joyous clip on social media of her shaven head as she continues her cancer treatment.

The Strictly pro was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May and has undergone a mastectomy. She later shared the news that a second type of cancer had been found, and that she contracted sepsis two days after starting chemotherapy.

Last week, the Welsh dancer shared an emotional video on Instagram of her decision to shave her head, with the help of family and friends, having previously said she is “just not ready yet”.

Now, Amy has posted a celebratory new clip of herself and her family having fun in the garden. The video shows her wearing a baseball cap while she and her family perform a dance routine. The Strictly star then moves forward, takes her cap off and covers the camera with it, before moving the cap again to show her shaved head. 

In the caption, she reveals that the post was inspired by her Strictly pal Dianne Buswell. “When @diannebuswell sends you reel ideas!” she wrote.

She also praised her father for his moves, writing: “Fair play dad @richard_dowden you steal the show here with your performance and energy #showman ! This brought so much fun to the day! As dancing always does 🙏🎀💖”

Dancer Buswell wrote in the comments: “@richard_dowden it’s a 10 from me ❤️”

In last week’s post showing her hair being shaved off, Amy wrote: “Taking control - the hardest step so far.” 

She continued: “I’ve not been able to take control of this journey so far, but as you can see with some of my loved ones I took the courage and CONTROL. It’s going to take some time to get use to and learn to love and embrace but, I’m now focussing-not on the hair I’m losing but the hair I’m going to get back.”

Amy is not taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, but she posted a message to her friends ahead of the first episode at the weekend, writing: “Happy live show day @bbcstrictly 💖 wishing the entire team a fabulous show and I know it’s going to be amazing! I’ve been kept up to date with the pros and a few sneaky FaceTimes! Literally can’t wait to watch and support you all. Hopefully I’ll be there in a few weeks 🙏💖
