Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla movie new trailer reveals release date

A24, the renowned film studio, has delighted audiences by unveiling a release date in new official trailer for Priscilla, an upcoming feature directed and written by the talented Sofia Coppola.

The movie draws its inspiration from Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me, which delves into the intimate and personal facets of her relationship with the legendary Elvis Presley.

From their initial encounter in 1959 in Bad Nauheim, Germany, to their glittering 1967 Las Vegas wedding and the subsequent birth of their daughter, Lisa Marie, the film promises to narrate their journey, showcasing iconic moments as well as the strains that led to their eventual parting.

Starring in the pivotal role of Priscilla is Cailee Spaeny, a rising talent in the industry, while Euphoria star Jacob Elordi takes on the portrayal of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, Elvis Presley.

This perspective, rooted in Priscilla's experience, offers a distinctive and contrasting view when compared to Baz Luhrmann’s loud and bombastic 2022 biographical music drama Elvis, where Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge portrayed the Presleys, and the film was acclaimed and received multiple Oscar nominations but did drawn some derision, particularly around Tom Hanks role within the film.

Priscilla held its premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, capturing the attention and admiration of the audience and industry alike, receiving a seven minute standing ovation.

Sofia Coppola, Priscilla, Cailee Spaeny, and Jacob Elordi graced the event, with the actors being granted a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement to support the movie amidst ongoing industry strikes.

Cailee Spaeny's exceptional performance led her to secure the best actress prize, known as the Volpi Cup, adding to speculation that the film may just sweep up in awards season and at the Oscars.

Sofia Coppola, known for her unique storytelling and directorial style, helms this project, marking her return to the big screen after her last feature in 2020, On the Rocks.

In addition to directing, Coppola also shoulders the responsibility of screenwriting and co-producing alongside Youree Henry and Lorenzo Mieli. "

Priscilla is brought to the audience by Fremantle Company and American Zoetrope, promising a film that encapsulates history and emotion.

A24, a trusted name in the film industry, is all set to handle the film's release in North America, while Vision Distribution will do the honours in Italy, where it will be exclusively available on Sky.
