Cat Deeley is reportedly joining ITV’s This Morning, as the show’s bosses continue to search for replacements for Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield.

Willoughby recently quit the popular morning show, after Schofield’s exit earlier this year.

Former SMTV host Deeley will host next week alongside fan-favourite Rylan Clark, according to The Sun. A source told the publication: "Cat is seasoned pro and execs have been keen to get her in for a while. She takes live TV in her stride and is really witty and personable with guests.

"She is comfortable interviewing both pop stars and politicians, so if it goes well she could be a much more permanent solution to Holly leaving. Cat would be a safe captain to steady the ship.”

An ITV spokeswoman also told The Sun: "Cat Deeley and Rylan will host This Morning together on Monday and Tuesday, Cat will host with Craig Doyle on Wednesday, then Alison Hammond and Craig on Thursday. Alison and Dermot will host the show together as usual on Friday."

Cat Deeley co-presented ITV children's show SMTV Live with Ant and Dec from 1998 until 2002, and won a BAFTA Children's Award in the process. She also hosted its music spin-off show CD:UK from 1998 to 2005 and later presented Fame Academy and Stars in Their Eyes.

Since then, she has been the host of So You Think You Can Dance in the United States. Her husband, Patrick Kielty, recently became the host of The Late Late Show in Ireland.

Holly Willoughby announced her departure from This Morning in October after 14 years. In a statement, she wrote: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning.

“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together.”

This Morning airs Monday to Friday on ITV.
