The Great British Bake Off’s Tasha has taken to Instagram alongside her interpreter Daryl to describe how they came up with some extra special signs for the programme.

Tasha, who is deaf, and her BSL interpreter Daryl have both become firm fan favourites over the past eight weeks.

In a new video posted to the show’s official Instagram page, the young baker from Bristol revealed she and Daryl made a list of words from the show which didn’t have signs ahead of taking part in the competition.

Words which they invented signs for include ‘signature’, ‘technical’ and ‘showstopper’. While in some cases there were words for a meaning of the words, their meanings in the show required a new sign to be created.

This was the case for 'signature', for which Tasha explained she and Daryl invented a sign which comes from the heart, “because you create it and it’s personal”.

‘Technical’ became an intertwining of fingers “because its technical”, meanwhile to create a sign for ‘showstopper’ they took inspiration from how those bakes are meant to “stop the show” with how fantastic they are.

Fans took to the GBBO account’s comments to share how enamoured they were with the baker and her interpreter’s imaginative signs.

“Awww, this is so sweet and inspiring,” said one. Another shared: “I love how Daryl has become part of the tent.”

“My sister and I used to interpret (ASL) for a professional theatre. Shakespeare was fun…” another commenter shared, adding: “I’m enjoying this so much. Thanks, Tasha!”

Tasha is now successfully through from last week’s quarter-final to this week’s semi-final show, in which she will be competing against her other remaining baking friends: Dan, Josh, and Matty, for a place in the final.

Next week is Patisserie Week, a challenging time for any baker without the added pressure of the final being only one week away.

The Great British Bake Off continues on Channel 4 tonight (21st November) from 8pm.
