Strictly Come Dancing star Layton Williams has warmed hearts by sharing his nan's recent reaction to the news he is partnered with a man on the BBC show.

The actor, who is paired with professional Nikita Kuzmin and set to dance in the upcoming final, told fans about his grandmother's cute response to the same-sex couple.

The Bad Education star told fans on social media: "Just rang my Nan in Jamaica and she managed to watch some of Strictly at a friend's house on the computer. She didn't know I was dancing with a man but said she loved it and doesn't care so long as I'm happy."

The duo scored perfect tens and a standing ovation from Craig Revel Horwood, who called his semi-final Charleston 'the best he’s ever seen in 20 years', following his dance to Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor’s Fit As A Fiddle. He also impressed judges with a Rumba to Rihanna’s Lift Me Up and earned 36 out of 40.

Motsi Mabuse agreed: "There is nothing that has been better, and this is a testament to your hard work and anyone around you, well done."

The West End actor has been facing negativity due to his 'unfair' dancing background from the public and responded to a supportive post on Twitter/X: "Thanks, Robin. Luckily I have thick skin but it’s so draining that so-called “Strictly fans” go out of their way to drag me down to lift others up.

“Their fave couples would be SO embarrassed by their comments and so should they. They’ll never dim my shine. Big love.”

Appearing on This Morning last week, the pair described the trolling as 'sad and unnecessary'.

Layton shared: "I'm sure you know how it feels, you can have 1000 amazing messages and then just one [negative] and you're like: Urgh! but in these moments, I've said it before and I'll say it again... even Beyoncé has haters, so!"

Williams and Kuzmin are due to go up against fellow contestants Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola, and Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell in the final in the race to bag the Glitterball trophy this coming weekend, but who will Waltz away with it?

Strictly Come Dancing: The Final is on Saturday 16 December at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
