Golden Globes 2024: Barbie, Oppenheimer and Succession lead nominations

The likes of Barbie, Ted Lasso, Succession and Oppenheimer have led the way with the most nominations at 2024’s Golden Globes.

Being the first major awards show in the calendar, the Golden Globes have kicked off the awards season with their categories across TV and film. The star-studded ceremony will take place on 7th January 2024. 

For the big screen categories, Barbie bagged the most nods with nine, including Best Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Actress for Margot Robbie and Best Actor for Ryan Gosling

Rival summer blockbuster Oppenheimer followed close behind with eight nominations, including Best Director for Christopher Nolan and Best Picture - Drama. 

Martin Scorsese's latest big budget movie, Killers of the Flower Moon also grabbed seven nominations, including Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Supporting Actor for Robert DeNiro. 

It’s not just the movies that get a look in with the Golden Globes, as the best in telly also has its time to shine. 

Succession’s final series will go out on a high after landing nine nominations, including Best Drama Series, and three nominations in the same category. Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin will battle it out in the Best Television Actor category. 

The Crown is also coming to an end this year, but they’ll get one last chance to nab a golden statuette with four nominations, with Imelda Staunton, Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West all receiving nods. 

Beloved Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso has three chances to landed a coveted statue, with both Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham nominated in their respective acting category.

There have also been some unexpected nominations for 2024’s Golden Globes, with Taylor Swift landing in the Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category for The Eras Tour film. 

Meanwhile, three of Barbie’s nods came from Best Song - Motion Picture, with Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For, Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night and I’m Just Ken all vying for the top spot.
