Can WHO fix it?! Jennifer Lopez has been revealed to be co-producing a new Bob the Builder movie which is in development from Barbie’s Mattel.

Hot on the heels of the toy company’s huge success in 2023 with Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s Barbie movie, Mattel has announced a Bob the Builder-based feature-length film will be produced by Lopez’s production company Nuyorican Productions.

Grammy-winning In the Heights and Hamilton actor Anthony Ramos has been cast as Roberto aka ‘Bob’ the Builder in a new take on the children’s TV show which was first broadcast almost 25 years ago on CBBC (later on CBeebies) - and once even starred Virgin Radio’s own Chris Evans in a guest starring role!

Mattel’s new Bob the Builder film will see Bob travel to Puerto Rico to take on issues affecting the Caribbean Island while learning more about what it means to be a builder.

In a statement, Mattel said: “Bob's journey will celebrate the vibrant and colourful textures of the Caribbean Latin nations and their people.” Working alongside JLo’s production company on the film will be ShadowMachine production studio, and scriptwriter Felipe Vargas.

Robbie Brenner, the president of Mattel Films, said he was “thrilled” to be revealing the project, adding: “Pairing Anthony and Felipe's genius vision for the story with ShadowMachine and Nuyorican's artisan approach will capture this beloved character in a manner that audiences who grew up with Bob will recognise, and all-new audiences will enjoy.”

Meanwhile, Bob actor Ramos said: “For years, Bob the Builder's characters have inspired young people around the world. I'm proud to partner with Mattel Films, ShadowMachine, Nuyorican Productions, and Felipe Vargas to bring this important message to the big screen, adding elements of life that are inspired by my own.

"A movie about friends working together, a celebration of a beautiful home they share, and how love can help to conquer any obstacle in your way. Can we fix it? Yes, we can!”
