Michelle Visage and Graham Norton couldn’t contain their joy about being included in the phenomenon that is Drag Race while speaking recently on Virgin Radio UK.
While on The Graham Norton Radio Show with Waitrose to promote her role in the West End’s The Addams Family musical, Michelle couldn’t help but also catch up with her friend about all things Drag Race ahead of RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs The World.
“Seeing [RuPaul’s Drag Race] slowly grow to what it is today, there’s not a minute where I don’t have to pinch myself to realise how this is a landscape and game changer for these queer artists, it’s pretty amazing” Michelle shared emotionally.
“It’s unbelievable, and let me tell you something - there’s not a moment of it that is wasted or goes over my head, because to see what this show has done - not just for the queer artists and the queer community - but for people who never felt they had a place where they belonged, they see themselves represented.
“If it were 12-year-old me or 13-year-old me who was bullied and had no friends, and I had a show like RuPaul’s Drag Race, I would not feel alone, and that’s what this show does - that’s the impact of it,” she continued.
Graham agreed, adding: “It was really special, I went to DragCon last year… to see the audience - cause you never get to see a TV audience - but at that, you see who’s watching the show, and it’s so lovely because it’s across the board!”
“[It’s] diversity everywhere,” Michelle said. “Ages, classes, races, you name it! Everybody is represented, everybody is loved. Everybody’s welcomed and adored.”
As they hinted at during their interview, Michelle and Graham will soon be on screen once more starring as pannelists alongside RuPaul and Alan Carr (plus a whole host of celebrity guests) on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World begins airing tonight (9th February) on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer at 9pm.
Listen to The Graham Norton Radio Show every Saturday AND Sunday from 9.30am on Virgin Radio or catch up on-demand here.
