‘A bit different’ - Gary Barlow set for new ITV series

Take That star Gary Barlow will host a brand new series this autumn for ITV.

The musician will explore a passion of his, namely discovering new food and wine.

ITV has commissioned a series of five episodes that will take the multi-award winning singer-songwriter to South Africa. As a newcomer and an entrepreneur in the wine industry, Gary will start his journey on the Western Cape, exploring the vineyards and learning about the variety of grapes, their sustainability, and what food is paired perfectly with each before driving through the breathtaking scenery. 

He will be joined by friends along the way, and will also head further North to embark on a safari experience of a lifetime and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg, where, according to the show’s synopsis, he will “discover a wine revolution” is taking place.

The series is due to start filming in March 2024. 

In a statement, Gary said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be exploring my passion for food, wine and travel in this new series for ITV. I’ve always loved South Africa and I can’t wait to really see all that it has to offer: the people, the places, its amazing history… and a glass or two of its incredible wine! This series is something that’s a bit different for me – but I can’t wait to get going.”

Whilst he set to front this new travel series, the singer has told virginradio.co.uk and other press that he wouldn’t consider going one step further and moving into acting.

At the world premiere of Matthew Vaughn’s spy-thriller comedy Argylle, he was asked if he’d consider switching things up like the film’s star Dua Lipa “Not really,” he responded, explaining: “It’s too late in life to start learning something new, for me. I just, I'll tell you what it is - I don’t have the passion. I watch other actors and actresses and it’s great, they’re brilliant. I couldn’t compete with that.

“I’m gonna stick to music.”
