Gladiators’ future has seemingly been confirmed by the BBC ahead of its finale this Saturday (30th March).

Speaking at yesterday night (26th March)’s Royal Television Society awards, the BBC’s director general Tim Davie seemed to suggest the action-packed show would be returning for another series after the phenomenal success of series one.

While the BBC have not yet officially revealed whether or not Gladiators will be filming a second series, Davie’s enthusiasm for the show suggests it is one of the programmes they will be working hard to keep on air.

Last night, Davie told audiences that Gladiators is one of the broadcaster’s “big priorities”, explaining that: “We will, despite budget pressures, prioritise big national occasions - from the Coronation, Eurovision, the Proms and Glastonbury, to the Olympics and the Euros, or Strictly or Gladiators, Children in Need or even that great drama: Election Night.” has reached out to the BBC to comment on whether or not this speech was an official confirmation of another series of Gladiators being in the works.

The Gladiators reboot launched in January 2024, and has attracted large audiences in its time slot and via catch-up on BBC iPlayer.

Speaking with The Sun, a TV source shared: “The viewing figures [of Gladiators] are proof that there is still a big appetite for Gladiators after all these years.”

Gladiators first hit TV screens in 1992 on ITV, and lasted until 2000. In 2008 and 2009 there was a short-lived reboot of the show on SkyOne, but it then took until 2024 for another series to be aired - now on the BBC.

Here’s hoping the show’s latest iteration with hosts Bradley and Barney Walsh will be allowed to continue beyond its first season.

Gladiators’ finale episode airs this Saturday (30th March) at 5.50pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
