Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has given his two cents over the potential casting of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as 007.

Pierce played the international spy from 1995’s GoldenEye to 2002’s Die Another Day, before handing over the role to Daniel Craig.

Craig is now stepping away from Bond, and the latest rumour is that Marvel star Taylor-Johnson will take over, although those rumours were later reportedly shot down by someone close to the production.

Despite a little bit of cold water thrown on the rumours, Aaron’s name has also been in the Bond conversation for a little while, and now, Pierce has weighed in on the possibility of the Kick-Ass star stepping into Bond’s shoes.

Speaking on The Ray D'Arcy Show, Pierce confessed: “I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.”

The pair actually starred together in 2008 drama The Greatest, and the Irish actor had nothing but praise for his co-star.

He added: “He was the greatest in it. So, yes, I read the news about his possibilities of being a Bond, so I would definitely tip my hat to the fellow.”

Pierce’s recommendation comes just a few days after former Bond George Lazenby reacted to Johnson’s rumoured casting.

TMZ reported that the On Her Majesty’s Secret Service actor believes Taylor-Johnson would be a good fit for Bond as he could “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux.”

Lazenby also shared that he believes Taylor-Johnson, if up for the role, will currently be undergoing many tests and auditions before sealing the deal.

Finally, the site claims his advice for the younger actor would be “to be true to himself and reinvent the role to fit him” just like previous Bond actors have succeeded to do.

Taylor-Johnson has been the frontrunner in the Bond movie rumour discussions for quite some time, but it’s only in the last month or so that rumours surrounding who will play the next Bond suddenly seem to be picking up traction once more.

Earlier this month, it was Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy reportedly being eyed for the part.

Production on Bond’s next outing following on from Daniel Craig’s final appearance in No Time To Die has yet to begin, but alongside Bond rumours there have also recently been stories emerging about who may star as the next Bond girl in the upcoming film.
