A fourth film in the Bridget Jones series is on its way, and it is set to once again feature Renée Zellweger as the titular character and Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy was announced earlier this year. It follows 2016's Bridget Jones' Baby, in which Bridge seemed to have found her happy ending, when she married Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and they had a son together.

However, Firth is not set to appear in the new film, which shares its name with the fourth book in Helen Fielding’s series. Speaking to People about the new film’s script, Hugh Grant said: “It is very moving as well as funny."

In the book, Bridget is raising her two children as a single mother after Mark’s death, and regarding the new film adaptation, Hugh said: “It's partly based on Helen Fielding's experiences of bringing up two children by herself after her husband died. And so Bridget is bringing up two kids and wondering whether she should ever go back to dating. It's a very good script."

Whilst there is no Colin Firth in the movie, Emma Thompson will be back to reprise her role as Doctor Rawlings from the third film. New cast members include (Doctor Strange’s Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall from The White Lotus and One Day.

Meanwhile, Hugh currently plays a former chancellor alongside Kate Winslet in miniseries The Regime, and has admitted to Entertainment Weekly that “[switching into politics] has crossed my mind.” However, he said: “But what I really see close up is that it’s almost impossible to actually get anything done. It’s just impossible. You’ve got to bring so many people with you."

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is due to be released on February 14, 2025. The Regime is out now on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
