With TV stars Rylan Clark and Rob Rinder both having faced the break-up of their marriages in recent years, the duo have embarked on a life-changing tour in the hope that it will kick-start a new chapter in their lives.

Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour started on BBC Two last night, and during the first episode in Venice, the pair spoke openly about having their hearts broken, with Rylan making a heartbreaking admission.

Over drinks, the Celebrity Gogglebox star said: “I think it was a culmination of my marriage breaking down and actually me stopping for the first time in 10 years. Then, all of a sudden, I hit quite a big speed bump, and instead of carrying on, I was just sunk."

Rylan continued: “It was the worst experience of my life. I just went on a downward spiral. I tried to end it, I tried to finish myself off. I didn't eat, I went down to 9 stone. I'm 6ft 4. I looked horrendous."

Saying that he was “so grateful,” for what he has got, the celeb said: “If I had to give it all up to not have to put my mum through what I put her through when I got ill, fine, take it. It was horrendous. She’s a 70-year-old woman, and she had to watch her ‘successful’ son literally disintegrate.”

Rob then said: “I’m not going to talk about my marriage because he’s a private person, but we’re in Venice, which is a place about passion, and I was once so in love when I was in my early twenties, but it wasn't reciprocated ever. And it never has been."

Rylan responded by saying: "Do you know what, Rob? We're here once, we've been through quite a lot of s***, what's it taught us? Nothing's forever, unless it's right." They then clinked glasses and Rylan lightened the mood by cheekily commenting, “he’s fit,” presumably at a passer-by. Rob laughed as he dried his eyes.

On the 200th anniversary of the death of Romantic poet Lord Byron, the series sees Rylan and Rob following in the footsteps of Byron and other Grand Tourists, immersing themselves in the art, culture, bad behaviour and life-changing exploits of historic Brits abroad.

Following episode one in Venice, the second episode focuses on Florence, and the final instalment sees them in Rome.

All three episodes of Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
