With rumours continuing to circulate about a celebrity version of hit series The Traitors, former reality star turned TV presenter Ben Fogle has spoken about whether he would take part.

Bosses behind the BBC show are reportedly eyeing up a star-studded instalment of the game show, with big names lined up. This follows two massively successful series of the show in the UK, and indeed a celeb version in the US.

Ben Fogle is no stranger to reality shows, having first come to public notice when he was in Castaway 2000, which followed a group of thirty-six people marooned on the Scottish island of Taransay for a year. He has gone on to present the likes of Crufts, Countryfile, Wild in Africa, and Endurance: Race to the Pole.

Ben and Dwayne Fields were nominated in the Factual Entertainment category for the latter at the BAFTA TV Awards 2024. Speaking to virginradio.co.uk and other press at the BAFTAs’ red carpet at London’s Royal Festival Hall yesterday (12th May) about reality TV, Ben said: “If you go back to when I started out, Castaway was arguably the most organic, natural of the reality TV. It's quite structured and produced now. And that's not to say it's a bad thing, but it isn’t really reality TV anymore. I think we need to rebrand the medium, but occasionally, a really honest, authentic reality show comes along and I think that's what we're gonna see in the next few years. You're gonna see more authenticity, and it will go away from the shiny, primary colours and be just a bit more natural.”

When it was suggested that he could get back into reality, the presenter said: “It feels time to come full circle, 25 years on! Maybe I'll go back to reality. Watch this space!”

And regarding whether he would get involved in The Celebrity Traitors if it comes to light, Ben told us: “I love Traitors. We watched it as a family. I haven't ever done a reality show since I was an original contestant. Never say never. It would certainly be the one that would appeal to me the most right now.”

Elsewhere on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet, Traitors series two winner Harry shared some surprising tactical advice to new contestants. Read it here.
