Comedian Joel Dommett has revealed the best advice he’s been given by his celebrity friends after welcoming his son.

The TV star and wife Hannah became new parents in September after welcoming Wilde Cooper-Dommett, and the couple haven’t been shy about sharing all the trials and tribulations of parenthood on social media.

Speaking exclusively to virginradio.co.uk, Joel, who recently joined forces with Pampers, dished on all the good bits of advice his famous pals, with ITV’s Holly Willoughby giving him some rather heartwarming titbits.

On which star colleague helped the most, Joel confessed: “Holly Willoughby gave me some good advice. She's not the source of this advice, but she was the person who told me, ‘All you gotta do is love them.’ Now I've got a child, it kind of makes sense. You've just got to be there a little bit and pay them attention.

“It's so funny. It's all the cliches and so much more. It's absolutely ridiculous. You just got to try and be there as much as you possibly can, with work and everything else permitting, and I'm trying my best.”

Not only has he been working hard to balance life, careers and being a dad, the Masked Singer host has been doing his very best to make his new - albeit tiny - audience laugh more than any major crowd has.

Sharing a rather heartwarming moment with us, Joel added: “As a stand up comedian, I've spent 16 years trying to make people laugh. I would trade in all of those laughs over the last 16 years from all those people for one genuine laugh from this tiny little human being.”Likening Wilde to his toughest audience yet, the I’m A Celebrity alumni explained: “There's no rhyme or reason to it. When you have an audience, you go out, you have new material, you craft a joke and you're making sure it's all brilliant. Then like you go out and it gets better and better.

“With a child, one day it works, the next day, they're not laughing at that thing. Like he loves the raspberry on the belly thing one day, he was losing his mind at that. I was like, ‘Finally, my child likes me!’ The next day, he's not laughing.”

Joel and wife Hannah have recently joined forces with Pampers to save parents’ sleep, after the nappy company’s new research found that 3 million hours of sleep is lost every week due to night-time nappy leaks.

Speaking about the sleep deprivation and becoming a new parent, Joel revealed: “It's definitely been a roller coaster, that’s for sure. It changes life. But honestly, it's been so fun. I mean, as many parents will know, the sleep changes. It really does."

Despite the lack of sleep, the Survivor host did confess it’s still “the best thing” that’s ever happened to him.

“I genuinely didn't expect to love him this much,” he continued. “I know everyone says the cliches…but the love is deep. You would do anything for this little thing.”
