Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth has confessed that he’s all for getting back to work, clarifying comments he made in 2022 about stepping back from acting.

The Furiosa star revealed in 2022 that he was “taking time off” after learning of his genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's, which was revealed while filming the Disney+ series Limitless.

Since then, Chris has shared more information about his decision to take a break, admitting a year later that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Since those comments, the Thor actor has returned to the big screen in Furiosa: A Max Max Saga, and while chatting to virginradio.co.uk and other press at the movie’s UK premiere, Chris admitted he’s more than ready to get working on some new projects.

Chris told us: “I just took six months off because I was exhausted. Then the [Hollywood] strikes happened. So it was a little extended holiday there. I'm very keen to get back to work.”

He added: “It’s about working with great people and scripts that are hopefully - or characters - that are a departure from what I've done.

“I'm just having fun, you know, whether it's a villain, a hero, a comedy, a drama. Whatever, I just want to - I want to enjoy the process. [Furiosa] gave me that, so I'm looking for more of that.”

Chris has stepped into the dusty boots of Dementus, the villainous warlord in the highly anticipated Mad Max prequel, and shared why this role helped him to break free from the “limitations” of playing a superhero.

"It was one of the best experiences I've had,” Chris continued. “Having played the superhero for years, which I've loved. But there are limitations being the hero and the good guy. Whereas the villain's allowed to be contradictory, he's allowed to be a little more sort of unpredictable. And the rules aren't really set in stone."

He added: "I don't want to say do what you want. But there is a freedom there that I hadn't felt before. The creative venture to have someone who was villainous, but also, there was some humanity in there, too, was an interesting kind of mix."

Set two decades before the events of the Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa follows a young warrior named Furiosa, portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy.

The official synopsis teases a thrilling tale: "Snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a biker horde led by the warlord Dementus, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland."

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is out in cinemas now.
