The winners of Race Across The World 2024 have shared what their £20,000 prize went on now they’ve officially been crowned the champions.

(Race Across The World 2024 spoilers ahead!)

The gruelling 15,000km race across Eastern Asia came to end last night (29th May), with an incredibly nail-biting finish that saw best friends Alfie and Owen go face-to-face with mum-daughter Eugenie and Isabel sprint across the sands of Lombok to that all-important check-in book.

Football referee Alfie and trainee pilot Owen were the first to sign the page and therefore the triumphant winners of the entire competition, meaning they walked away with a hefty £20,000 cash prize, and it turns out that the travelling twosome have already spent their winnings.

In a chat with virginradio.co.uk, Alfie and Owen updated us on what they’ve been up to since returning home from Indonesia as RATW’s latest - and youngest - champs, and it seems Owen is already packed for his next holiday.

“More travelling for me,” he explained. “Just the same sort of thing, nothing too special. I’m trying to be sensible with it, but who knows how long that will last.”

However, it seems normal life has superseded any big plans for friend Alfie, who already “spent a chunk on it” on a credit card bill.

On the rather grown-up spending plan, he revealed: “I need to move out in a couple of months. I'm hoping that I'm just going to be clever with it rather than stupid, but who knows?”

“I can’t complain about it, but it’s not that fun,” Alfie joked.

On the immediate indulgences that the pals decided to treat themselves to, the duo confessed they headed straight to the nearest restaurant.

“I probably had a beer and a burger,” Owen recalled. “We were starving and we knew we were getting to the end of that day, so we thought ‘let’s just save as much money as possible’ and just scoffed our faces.”

There was only eight minutes between Alfie and Owen and the runners-up, Eugiene and daughter Isabel, while brother and sister duo, Betty and James, landed in third and husband and wife, Stephen and Viv, came in fourth.

Following their arrival on the beach just eight minutes later to claim second place, Eugenie said: “We did it. We’ve come in a good second. If we were to lose to anybody, we always said that we would want to lose to Alfie and Owen.”

“They’re deserving of it as well, they’ve worked hard.”

Plenty of Race Across The World fans were pleased to see the pals make it to the very end, with one fan writing on X: “I am obsessed with them. Their kindness, their open love for each other and their friendship as young men is such a beautiful thing to see.  I have never wanted anyone to win anything more.”

Another added: “So pleased for Alfie and Owen. Shed a tear at the end. Along with Betty and James they showed us just how amazing young people are.”

A third shared: “What a series! So happy for Alfie and Owen two lovely young men and great friends too.”
