Fans of a popular Netflix series are crossing their fingers that the show is about to make a very belated return.

The Society hit screens back in 2019 to praise from fans and critics alike, with a ten-part mystery drama,

However, due to the pandemic, the show was left on a cruel cliffhanger with viewers wondering what comes next.

The show tells the story of a group of teenagers left to fend for themselves when the rest of their town disappears.

The teens are left to run their own community while also trying to figure out what happened to everyone else.

The student had come home early from a cancelled field trip only to discover everyone else had disappeared, and a dense forest appears, circling the town.

They are completely cut off from the outside world, and are left with increasingly limited resources.

How can they survive?

The show stars Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Sean Berdy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jacques Colimon and Olivia DeJonge.

Now, after all this time, the show’s creator Christopher Keyser told Variety: “This wasn’t a normal cancellation. This wasn’t about not having the audience or we didn’t believe in it anymore. There was a global crisis that changed all of our lives in the one year we were able to make it.

“I have consistent conversations with a bunch of the writers and Marc Webb [executive producer] about how we might bring this back in some way.

“We don’t have an answer yet, and I wouldn’t count on it, but I don’t do that with every show that gets canceled.”

He added: “The audience still wants to talk about it. They are still moved by it and want answers to the questions and then new questions are posed.

“I just don’t know whether the world is going to work in a way that aligns for us, but we’ll keep trying for a while because it’s gotten under my skin as well.”

One fan wrote: "I will never forgive Netflix for cancelling this show. NEVER."

Another added: "If there's one show Netflix should bring back, it's this one. Bring back The Society! We need answers!"

Fingers crossed we'll get some answers, somehow.
