The two recent films’ director Andy Muschietti is also returning to direct four episodes of the nine episode series, Deadline reports.

According to the entertainment news website, Welcome to Derry will “expand the vision” of filmmaker Muschietti and tell a story developed by him and producers Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, inspired by the original It novel.

Joining Skarsgård in the cast for Welcome to Derry will be Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar.

It’s been five years since the release of It Chapter Two, which brought an end to the frightening horror story which began with 2017’s It.

While both film’s saw Skarsgård portray the shapeshifting monster that is Pennywise, the two It films were led by different casts as the first movie focused on a group of Derry-dwelling children’s first encounter with Skarsgård’s monster, meanwhile Chapter Two focused on the now adult versions of those characters’ second meeting with the clown.

It was led by childstars Jaeden Martell, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs and Jack Dylan Grazer, meanwhile It Chapter Two was led by James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Jay Ryan, Andy Bean, Isaiah Mustafa and James Ransone.

Speaking about the prequel series in a press release earlier this year, Stephen King said: “I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara. Red balloons all around!”

Welcome to Derry will air on Max in the US, with no news just yet about where it will air in the UK.
