House of the Dragon star Emily Carey has opened up about why fans shouldn’t get their hopes up to see her return to the series.

Fans of the show and her performance as a young Alicent Hightower alongside Milly Alcock’s young Rhaenyra Targaryen have been sharing hopes online that the show’s second series might still find a way to feature their younger versions of the characters.

Despite the fact House of the Dragon aged up its characters and introduced a new cast including Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy as Alicent and Rhaenyra respectively half way through series one, fans have shared hopes that the younger iterations could still feature in future seasons through some carefully chosen flashback scenes.

However, speaking recently with RadioTimes.com ahead of her role leading Netflix’s Geek Girl, Carey warned: “I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say, but I will say don't get your expectations up!”

This comment seems to suggest that flashbacks will not feature in season two of the show, which focuses on the civil war which has hit the Targaryen family.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter back in September 2022, Carey revealed she and other actors of the young characters in the popular Game of Thrones spin-off would certainly be interested in making a return to the show if possible.

She said: “It's been spoken about, conversations have happened, but, in all honesty, I know absolutely nothing and I have no idea. Of course, I would love to come back. It depends on how it's received and where they want to take the show next. I’m just going with the flow!”

However, announcements about season two’s cast have not suggested any of the show’s younger actors will be returning for the next instalment.

Confirmed for season two so far are: Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Tom Glynn-Carney, Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.

Plus many actors will be joining the show, including: Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

House of the Dragon returns to Sky Atlantic and NOW on Sunday, 16th June.
