Get ready for another one of DreamWorks' heartwarming adventures as the trailer for The Wild Robot drops, promising to boot up your next family movie night!

DreamWorks is set to continue the emotional animated robot movie trend (see here Wall-e, The Iron Giant, and Big Hero 6) with The Wild Robot, directed by the brilliant Chris Sanders, the creative mind behind Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon.

This time, he brings us the touching story of a domesticated droid named Roz, voiced by the incomparable Lupita Nyong’o.

Roz’s adventure begins with a bang—literally—as she crash-lands on a remote island. With her circuits frazzled and her metal frame battered, Roz must navigate the wild terrain and make friends with the island's quirky inhabitants.

Enter Brightbill, an orphaned gosling voiced by the charming Kit Connor, and Fink, a sly fox brought to life by Pedro Pascal.

If Pascal’s fox antics don’t make you chuckle, you might need a reboot!

Chris Sanders’ knack for blending heartwarming stories with stunning visuals is on full display.

The animation, featuring Roz’s expressive yet minimalist design and the vibrant island environment, evokes the same emotional resonance as Sanders’ previous works like Stitch and Toothless.

This time, he adds a twist by exploring the relationship between technology and nature, and the parental bond that forms between Roz and Brightbill.

And for a dose of humour, Pedro Pascal’s Fink delivers some classic animated comedy, including a memorable scene where he hilariously boots Brightbill into a pond.

The official synopsis teases an epic adventure: "The Wild Robot follows the journey of ROZZUM unit 7134, Roz for short, who is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island.

"Roz must adapt to her harsh surroundings, gradually forming bonds with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling."

Sanders shared a delightful personal anecdote with that added a special touch to his involvement with the project: "When DreamWorks presented me with the option to develop The Wild Robot, I immediately felt a connection. It resonated with my style and sensibilities. I read the book, loved it, and was eager to direct it.

"I mentioned the project to my daughter, and she excitedly told me she had read the book in school. She even pulled out her copy, which I remembered seeing around the house. It’s a popular book in schools, and she was thrilled that I was working on it."

The film’s voice cast is a who’s who of talent. Besides Nyong’o and Pascal, the lineup includes Catherine O'Hara, Stephanie Hsu, Bill Nighy, Mark Hamill, Ving Rhames, and Matt Berry.

With such an ensemble, The Wild Robot promises to be a delight for both kids and adults alike.

If you’ve ever found yourself tearing up at Wall-E or cheering for Hiro and Baymax in Big Hero 6, then The Wild Robot is sure to become your next animated favourite.

The Wild Robot arrives in cinemas on 27 September.
