Quel dommage! Pixar will not be making a live-action Ratatouille film starring Josh O’Connor.

Despite recent fan speculation surrounding a possible remake of the popular 2007 animated film, Pixar boss Pete Docter shut down rumours with a clear "No," while on the red carpet for the studio’s next release, Inside Out 2.

The chief creative officer explained that rather than focus on live-action remakes of their most popular films, the animation studio is currently “focusing much of its energy on making more sequels” instead.

“This might bite me in the butt for saying it, but [the live-action idea] sort of bothers me,” Docter told Time. “I like making movies that are original and unique to themselves. To remake it, it's not very interesting to me personally.”

Rumours about a potential Ratatouille remake began to swirl after The Challengers press tour revealed that the animated feature is one of star Josh O’Connor’s favourite movies.

Fans were quick to point out the La Chimera star - who has just begun to film the third Knives Out film - has the right look and mannerisms to portray a real-life version of Ratatouille’s Linguine, and from there excitement grew surrounding the idea a live-action film might one day come to be with the film’s biggest fan as its lead.

But while live-action Pixar films are seemingly not planned for the near future, new films such as Inside Out 2 will give fans an opportunity to reconnect with some of their former favourite characters.

The sequel to 2015’s Inside Out picks up its story with a now teenage Riley (Kensington Tallman) and her many emotions making the transition from American middle school to high school, and discovering some new emotional milestones along the way.

Inside Out 2 is out in cinemas on Friday 14th June.
