Mastermind host Clive Myrie has addressed the rumours that he might be heading to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom floor.

Rumours that the BBC newsreader could be on the next Strictly line-up began after he showed off his impressive dance moves in a preview clip of his new series, Clive Myrie’s Carribean Adventure.

He wrote alongside the clip on Instagram: “What do you say @bbcstrictly? Are my moves up to par?"

Now, Clive has responded to the speculation that he might be after that glitterball trophy, during an interview on the BBC's Morning Live, after host Gethin Jones insisted the presenter must’ve been asked to go on the show.

During an earlier link, Helen Skelton told viewers: “Clive Myrie tells us about heading to the Caribbean for his new travel series and if busting moves to Jamaican dance hall music has inspired him to consider Strictly.”

Gethin added: “I think out of all of the BBC News readers that I know, Clive has the most rhythm I would say, pretty much, out of everyone I know from BBC News.”

Then, when interviewing Clive, Gethin probed Clive about whether he is going on Strictly, saying: “Surely you've been asked?"

Referring to Strictly Come Dancing professional Neil Jones in the studio, Clive replied: “[Neil's] sitting there thinking, 'Have you really got it, Myrie? Have you really got it?'"

The TV star then shared: "I don't know. Who knows? Maybe one day."

While we have a little while to go before the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 line-up is revealed, we do know who will and won’t be dancing with the celebs this year.

Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola will all be taking to the dancefloor to perform in 2024.

The professional line-up reveal confirmed that Giovanni Pernice, who was reported to have quit Strictly after facing scrutiny for his reportedly harsh behaviour during training, will not be back to perform this year.

It also reveals the welcome news that Welsh dancer Amy Dowden is hoping to make a triumphant return to the show after her various health struggles last year.

Before we learn if Clive will hit the dance floor, he recently appeared on Mark Wogan’s Spooning podcast, during which he revealed what his own Mastermind specialist subject would be were he to ever compete in the quiz show.

If he was to sit on the other side of the Mastermind desk, Clive confessed: “You know what? I am a typical journalist, I know a little bit about a lot of stuff. I can just about hold myself at a dinner party on a gazillion things, but the depth you need to be a Mastermind… scary stuff.

“I don't know? I’m a big Man City fan. So maybe Man City, the glory years! That would work.”

Strictly Come Dancing will be back on BBC One later this year on BBC One. Previous series are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
