Bridgerton star Golda Rosheuvel has opened up about the wholesome inspiration behind her portrayal of Queen Charlotte.
The steely-nerved monarch is back to her meddling ways as part two of series three arrives on Netflix, with Queen Charlotte desperate to find her diamond of the season while gaining approval from Lady Whistledown.
Golda has starred as Queen Charlotte since the very beginning, and while chatting to virginradio.co.uk and other press at the UK Gala Screening of Bridgerton series three part 2 yesterday (12th June), the Doctor Who star dished on how the royal figure is actually a tribute to her beloved mum.

“Initially, the first creation of the character was from my mother,” she confessed. “That's like the soul and the heart of her.”
“She now has evolved into her own kind of character and persona, but the original kind of go-to ideas were definitely to celebrate my mother,” Golda explained.
Queen Charlotte is famous for her stoic demeanour, incredible head pieces and elaborate events, and when asked what she would say to the impressive monarch, Golda admitted she “wouldn’t listen to a word.”
“I think that I would [say to] hold the reins a little bit,” Golda shared.
Fans will finally find out what happened after Colin Bridgerton (Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) finished up that rather steamy carriage ride back to the Bridgerton house at the end of part one.
While Queen Charlotte is ultimately more interested in pairing up two of The Ton's most eligible singletons, someone else is interested in seeing her character tie the knot.
Lady Danbury herself, aka actor Adjoa Andoh, was among the actors at the star-studded event last night, and while speaking about her character’s future beyond the next few episodes, she told virginradio.co.uk and other press: “I would love to see her have a romantic relationship. I hear that from a lot of fans.”
She continued: “When you have a woman who is independent, in charge of her own money, in charge of her own life, in charge of her own destiny, what happens if she needs to open that heart space to let someone in? How do you stay independent and yet dependent? It's an interesting conversation. And also, obviously, for me, it's just another aspect of her character to explore.”
Nearly two years after the second season aired, the hit drama returned last month with part one of season two, which saw Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton share their secret affection for each other.
When asked about Derry Girls star Nicola being the new leading lady, Adjoa told us: “Nicola is smart, funny and glamorous, and she's been so front and centre, full of joy and full of style and determination, and entirely uniquely her own self. And I think audiences love her for that.”
Bridgerton Series 3 Part 2 is available on Netflix now.
