Richard Osman has admitted to breaking a rule on The Wheel which he’s joked could cost the BBC “millions”.

Speaking with Marina Hyde on their podcast The Rest is Entertainment, the former Pointless co-host and much-loved comedian opened up about recently having filmed an episode of the popular Saturday night gameshow.

Discussing how much he loves the music The Wheel plays when it spins its contestants around, Osman shared: “The Wheel music is absolutely amazing.”

However, he then explained how this “amazing” music might have landed him in hot water with the producers.

“The one thing they said was ‘Don’t sing along with the lyrics of the songs when you go round because they can’t use it if you’re mouthing the lyrics,’” he explained.

“I mouthed along to every single one, I’m not sure if they can use it,” he admitted, adding: “I absolutely couldn’t help myself.”

Hyde then joked about how this might mean Osman was a "£300,000 guest", to which he replied: “It would literally cost them millions, but it was a really lovely experience.”

Osman also took the opportunity on the podcast to gush about Michael McIntyre’s hosting talents on The Wheel. “He's so brilliant, he's brilliant with the punters, he's brilliant with the celebrity experts.

“He absolutely drives that show through,” the former TV producer said. “You need constant energy on that show and he just is incredible.”

Osman has recently been in the news surrounding the upcoming film adaptation of his popular Thursday Murder Club books, for which key casting decisions have been announced.

Earlier this month, it was revealed David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Danny Mays and Henry Lloyd-Hughes would be joining the already all-star cast which is being led by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kinsgley and Celia Imrie.

The Wheel will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
