Comedian Chris McCausland joined Tom Allen in the Virgin Radio studio to spill behind he scenes secrets about his brand new ITV show.

The Wonders of the World I Can’t See star - who is currently the subject of swirling Strictly 2024 rumours - hosts the channel’s new Saturday morning breakfast programme The Chris McCausland Show, which began airing on 29th June.

“It’s a breakfast show, it’s a talk show,” the comedian explained, but added: “But we haven’t put breakfast in the title and we don’t reference the morning, because things live on catch-up these days, don’t they!

“If you want to watch a breakfast show with no reference to breakfast, this is the one!” he joked, later referring to the show as "madness" as they film it on Wednesday afternoons!

Describing the format of his show, McCausland explained how the programme will usually invite two guests on for “a little bit of nonsense” and will also feature a performance from a band. Episode one saw the comic interview Donna Preston and Paul Whitehouse, and a performance from The Lottery Winners.

As McCausland told Tom on Sunday (30th June), filming his first show was a bit of a baptism of fire. “I’ve never done this before, never hosted a show on the telly,” he told the Virgin Radio Sunday show presenter.

“I had to learn how to interview on telly in front of Paul Whitehouse!” he shared. “And you know… I probably spent more of my youth quoting his catchphrases than I did brushing my teeth! But he was fantastic. A salt of the earth geezer.”

Whitehouse appeared on Chris’ show to promote his new GOLD series about the history of the sketch show, which he also chatted with Virgin Radio’s Ryan Tubridy about last week.

However, the Fast Show comic opened up to McCauseland about all manner of other things during their interview. “As soon as we started, he just went flying in with his voices of his, and we were like ‘Oh, we’re getting this Paul!’”

The Chris McCausland Show airs on ITV1 from 8.25am on Saturdays, and is available at all times via ITVX.

Listen to Tom Allen on Sundays from 10am to 1pm on Virgin Radio UK on DAB, online, Sky TV, smart speakers or via the Virgin Radio UK app.
