Did you know that Pepsi hasn’t always been called Pepsi? Well, if you didn’t, then you’re certainly not alone, as plenty of fans of the fizzy drink are only just discovering its original name.
It turns out that, when Pepsi was created by Caleb D. Bradham, the now massively-popular product was called something very different.
Bradham began selling the carbonated soft drink at his drugstore in North Carolina all the way back in 1893. But what did he call it?

Well, the creator first gave it the somewhat uninspiring name of... Brad’s Drink.
A handful of years later, in 1898, Brad’s Drink was renamed Pepsi-Cola because it was advertised to relieve dyspepsia and also because of its cola flavour. Despite speculation on the origin of its name, the beverage's formula initially included sugar and vanilla, but not pepsin.
The name was shortened to simply Pepsi in 1961.
Fans of the drink have taken to social media to react to learning the original name of the drink. One wrote: “I’m gonna start calling Pepsi Brad’s Drink, that’s so funny.”
Someone else wrote: “I just learned that Pepsi was originally called Brad's Drink, so anyway I'm going to be reeling from that for a week or so”
Another added: “From here on out referring to Pepsi by its original name.”
Upon discovering the brand’s first name, one commenter simply said: “What??? Oh my god.”
The name change clearly didn’t do any harm, as Pepsi is the second most valuable soft drink brand worldwide, behind Coca-Cola;.
“Is Brad’s Drink okay?” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it?
In other sweet treat news, fans of Nestlé's Nesquik have recently had reason to celebrate, after the brand has apologised following recipe changes and have said it will be reverting back.
The powder made alterations to some of the flavours, and consumers were left angry after a recent recipe change left a "sludgy texture" to the drink. Read all about it here.
