Return to Paradise star Anna Samson has taken to social media to give Death in Paradise fans a much-anticipated update.

Writing in an emotional post on her Instagram, the former Home and Away actress, who will play new lead DI Mackenzie Clarke in the Australian based spin-off, revealed filming for Return to Paradise’s first season concluded in early June 2024.

“I got to spend the last three months with these three lads, I love them more than I can say,” her post was captioned, in reference to fellow stars Aaron McGrath, Lloyd Griffith and Tai Hara, with whom she shared a photo for the post.

“We wrapped our show this week and my heart is broken that they will no longer be contractually obliged to spend time with me,” Samson added jokingly.

With filming having concluded last month, fans looking forward to their next instalment of the Death in Paradise universe might be able to expect the new show to air as early as this Autumn.

Return to Paradise was announced in April this year, and will tell the story of expat DI Clarke as she moves from her former London Met job back to her Australian home after being accused of tampering with evidence.

Having fled her Aussie hometown six years ago, leaving her ex-fiancé Glenn (Tai Hara) at the altar in the process, it’s safe to say that DI Clarke is not given a massively warm welcome when she returns for a demoted role at Dolpin Cove, Australia’s Police Station.

In addition to actors Samson, Hara, McGrath and Griffith, Return to Paradise will also star Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries star Catherine McClements, Total Control’s Celia Ireland and The Artful Dodger’s Andrea Demetriades.

Fans have been taking to the comments of Samson’s recent Instagram posts about the series to share their excitement about the new six-part series.

“Can’t wait to see this next instalment in the Paraverse,” said one person. “So looking forward to seeing you all on screen,” another penned.

Return to Paradise will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
