The first images of the hotly-anticipated Gladiator sequel have been released, showing the likes of Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal and Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things.
The film - which follows on from the acclaimed original 2000 movie starring Russell Crowe as Maximus - is set to land later this year. Once again helmed by director Ridley Scott, the sequel picks up in the years after the original story, which saw Maximus sold into slavery after his family was murdered, before fighting his way up the ranks to get revenge against the emperor who destroyed his life.
The new film stars Normal People’s Paul Mescal as Lucius, the youngest son of Lucilla from the first film, played again by Connie Nielsen.

Meanwhile, The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal plays Roman general Marcus Acacius, a who is said to have trained under Maximus. Denzel Washington also stars.
Speaking recently about the new film, Joseph Quinn - who is best known for playing Eddie Munson in Stranger Things said: “I’ve seen little moments of footage. And it looks like everything that you could possibly want.”
In more new first-look images that have been shared on Instagram, we see battle scenes between Mescal and Pascal.
“I call him Brick Wall Paul,” Pascal is quoted as saying about Mescal.
“He got so strong. I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again.”
If you are hoping to see Russell Crowe in the new film, then prepare to be disappointed. Speaking on The Ryan Tubridy Show on Virgin Radio, the actor confirmed he wasn’t involved.
He explained: “It’s an extension of the narrative, but it is long beyond Maximus’ passing, so it doesn’t really involve me at all.”
He added: “That young fella Paul is a good dude and I wish him the best of luck with it.'
Gladiator 2 is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on 15th November 2024.
