Fans have sad theory about Phoebe's triplets in Friends

Be warned - you'll need the tissues handy for this emotional theory Friends fans have about Phoebe Buffay's triplets.

The show finished in 2004, but all this time later fans are still sharing their theories about plot lines.

This particular one focuses on Phoebe, played by Lisa Kudrow, and the time she became pregnant with triplets as a surrogate.

The storyline took place during series 4 and 5, when Phoebe agreed to be a surrogate for her brother Frank and his wife Alice.

During the episode 'The One with the Embryos' =, we see Phoebe's journey to become a surrogate.

The episode reveals the process is a success and she is pregnant.

During season 5, episode 3, called 'The One Hundredth', Phoebe's water breaks and she is taken to hospital.

There, she is shocked to deliver not one, two, but three babies.

Fans are heartbroken when Phoebe asks if she can keep one of the three to raise herself.

She is told no, before crying and then handing them to Alice and Frank.

Now, fans have a theory that Phoebe was the biological parent the whole time, with no obligation to give the babies away.

The theory is shared during an episode of After Hours called 'How To Ruin Your Favorite Sitcoms With Simple Math'.

According to the hosts the timeline doesn't add up, with Phoebe's surrogacy procedure taking place after Christmas, due to the Christmas tree shown in Monica and Rachel's apartment in previous episodes.

Her pregnancy test came back the same day as the procedure.

She then gave birth in May, with the theory claiming that Phoebe's triplets would only have been gestating for four months if they were the result of the surrogacy.

The theory implies that Phoebe was unknowingly already pregnant with her own biological children.
