Danny Dyer has revealed he has his eye on several future roles - but never a turn on Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking with The Sun, the former EastEnders actor spoke openly about how he’s been trying his hand at several different kinds of entertainment roles since leaving the soap in 2022.

After recently appearing on stage in Hyde Park to sing Parklife, starring in dramas such as Disney+ upcoming series Rivals, and taking part in competitions such as The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer in 2024 (alongside Virgin Radio’s own Leigh Francis), it might seem the actor can do whatever he wants in the entertainment industry. However, there are still a few opportunities he’s yet to get his hands on.

“The obvious role I’d love to play is James Bond, you know, a cockney Bond,” Dyer explained. “Or I would like to maybe have a go at Doctor Who, something that’s been played by many different actors before and put my own spin on it, my own take on it.”

But one thing Dyer is always turning down is the opportunity to compete on Strictly Come Dancing. “I get offered to do Strictly every year, and it’s not for me. I’ve got no desire to be mincing around in sequins,” the TV star said.

We’re assuming that means we can rule out a go at Dancing on Ice for Danny as well then.

But the actor is still determined to keep trying new things since leaving EastEnders, even if none of those are dancing competitions. “Ultimately, I’m still searching for what that ultimate role would be,” he added.

Next up in the actor’s ever growing filmography is his lead role in the Sky Max show Mr Bigstuff. In the dark-comedy, Dyer plays Lee, a prescription drug addict who turns his brother’s comfortable surburban life upside down.

“This came along, and I thought, oh wow, this is totally different from the character of Mick, and something that people have never really seen me do before,” the actor told The Sun about his new role.

“This is a joy. To be on a set where everyone’s laughing, it’s a different kind of energy. I would love to push it further, this comedy thing, if I get an opportunity,” he added.

Mr Bigstuff starts on Sky Max and NOW on Wednesday, 17th July.
