In news that will excite comedy fans, much-loved hospital-based series Green Wing might be on its way back, 17 years after the show ended.

The surreal, hilarious Channel 4 comedy first landed on screens back in 2004, and proved to be a big hit with viewers across its two series before coming to an end in 2007.

It followed the travails, loves and lives of medical staff at East Hampton Hospital, and starred the likes of Stephen Mangan, Oscar-winner Olivia Colman and Friday Night Dinner legend Tamsin Greig.

The show’s creator and writer, Vicky Pile has now shared some surprising news, namely that the team behind Green Wing are in contact about maybe getting back together.

In a new interview with Radio Times, the Smack The Pony producer said (via The Sun): “We are debating [a revival].”

She added: “I’m about to email everybody and see how they feel about it. So, yeah, we’re contemplating what we could do.”

Pile also said in the interview (via NME) that, “somebody had asked me if I would do another Green Wing, and I said no,” before adding: “if I did [bring it back], it would be with Channel 4.”

The hit series also starred Mark Heap as the wonderfully weird Alan Statham, along with Pippa Haywood, Sarah Alexander and Oliver Chris. Julian Rhind-Tutt played "Mac" and Karl Theobald was hapless Martin. Michelle Gomez played the brilliantly bonkers Sue White.

Whilst we wait to see if the show does come back to telly, we can at least enjoy more from the Green Wing gang via a six-part Audible series, which was released in April.

The audio series, Green Wing: Resuscitated, was also created by Victoria Pile. Returning to East Hampton Hospital are fan-favourite characters including Guy Secretan (Mangan), Caroline Todd (Tamsin Greig) and more faves from back in the day.

Mark Heap and Pippa Haywood also made a return in the Audible release, despite their characters’ uncertain ending in the Green Wing Special from 2007.

Green Wing: Resuscitated is available on Audible now. Episodes of the original Green Wing are available to stream on Channel 4.
