The second heat of Celebrity MasterChef 2024 continued last night (22nd August), and it was time for another contestant to say goodbye to the kitchen.
After Chloe Burrows from Love Island was eliminated earlier this week, the remaining four celebrities battling for the quarter-final places were Line of Duty’s Rochenda Sandall, Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, EastEnders actor Danielle Harold and comedian Eshaan Akbar.
The three challenges that tested the foursome in last night’s episode started with the Pairs Challenge. Split into teams, each duo worked to create a plate of food that needed to be identical in both looks and taste. However, only one teammate had the basic instructions of how to get the job done. The teams were Rochenda and Harry, and Danielle and Eshaan.

Next, the same celebrity pairs were let loose in a real-life professional setting, before heading back to the MasterChef kitchen. There, they attempted to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with a dish they would serve from the hatch of their own food truck.
Unfortunately for Eshaan, his Bengali offerings - mince and egg parathas and dhal puris - didn’t impress Gregg and John. The former noted the puris as being too dry, while John wasn’t a fan of the spicy ketchup.
Ultimately, it was Eshaan who was sent home. He said: “I am feeling sad to be going home. Genuinely the truth. I’ve had such a great time here. And in such a short space of time I’ve made great friendships with the guys.
“I want the winner to come from those three, so I’ll definitely be flying the flag for them, for sure.”
Team GB star Harry said: “MasterChef quarter-finalist? Oh my gosh! That is absolutely crazy. Do I want more of this? Definitely do!"
Danielle added: “I actually can’t believe it. I feel like, for me, I’ve won! Because that’s all I wanted to be able to go home and say, ‘I’ve made it to the quarter finals of MasterChef. So I can cook!’”
Rochenda admitted: “I’m absolutely buzzing. You get the bug and you want more, more, more. Once you pop, you can’t stop!”
Meanwhile, speaking exclusively to virginradio.co.uk, Rochenda described the bonding experience within the kitchen as a “really humbling experience”. She added: “You’ve got to know people truthfully, rather than just through work. I know we're at work, but it was a very humbling experience to just learn through food what people like and what they don't like. It’s a very interesting thing for me.”
Last week, telly and radio presenter Snoochie Shy, Charlotte Crosby and Edith Bowman were all sent home, leaving Ian ‘H’ Watkins from Steps and TV host Craig Doyle to go through to the next stage.
Over the course of the series, viewers will also be able to see the following stars put to the test: OJ Borg, Mutya Buena, Diane Carson, Vito Coppola, Tamer Hassan, Jamie MacDonald, Christine McGuinness, Jake Quickenden, Dominic Skinner and Emma Thynn, Marchioness of Bath.
Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
