The third heat of Celebrity MasterChef 2024 has continued, with three stars making it to this week’s quarter-final and one sent home.

With TV personality Christine McGuinness having already been given the elbow earlier this week, the remaining four contestants were singer and ex-footballer Jake Quickenden, actor Tamer Hassan, comedian Jamie MacDonald and model Emma Thynn.

Last night’s episode (29th August) saw the four stars tested across three tasks, starting with the Pairs Challenge. Split into teams, each pair was required to dish up a stunning plate of food that had to be identical, both in looks and taste.

However, it wasn’t that simple, as only one member of each team was armed with the basic instructions of how to make the thing! To avoid any sort of kitchen carnage, they needed to communicate instructions to their fellow celebrity. The pairs were Jamie and Jake, and Tamer and Emma.

The same pairs then headed off to work in professional kitchens to make some Italian and gastropub grub as a frantic lunch service for the hungry public loomed.

Then they worked individually again back to MasterChef HQ to create their own food truck-inspired dish for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace. Jake made a tempura taco dish, while Tamer leaned on his Turkish Cypriot heritage with a lamb kebab.

Jamie delivered a chicken burger with a pancetta salsa, and Emma created summer rolls from marinated chicken thighs and pickled vegetables.

At the end of all this, it was Emma who was sent home from the kitchen.

“None of this has felt real at all. At all! I can’t believe I did it," she said. "I’m so proud of myself, doing what I’ve done. I’m happy to go home to my lids and my husband and have a rest.”

Dancing on Ice’s Jake said: “I can’t believe it! I’m absolutely bewildered that I’ve got through to the quarter-finals. I’ve made it so much further than I thought I was going to make it. I’m absolutely buzzing."

Blind stand-up Jamie admitted: “It is a little bit masochistic, this show. I do want more, but it is tough. I’m going to try to put everything I’m getting taught into making myself better and hopefully progress as far as I can. I’m delighted.”

Football Factory actor Tamer said: “My kids are going to be so proud of me. I’m in the game. I’m still in the game, and I’m going to get to the end of it and lift that trophy, I’m telling you.”

Last week, Chloe Burrows from Love Island was eliminated along with comedian Eshaan Akbar and EastEnders actor Danielle Harold, meaning that Line of Duty’s Rochenda Sandall, and Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey went through.

Heat one saw telly and radio presenter Snoochie Shy, Charlotte Crosby and Edith Bowman were all sent home, leaving Ian ‘H’ Watkins from Steps and TV host Craig Doyle to go through to the next stage.

The final heat will feature OJ Borg, Mutya Buena, Diane Carson, Vito Coppola and Dominic Skinner.

Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
