ITV have released the first trailer for Joan, a real-life inspired crime-thriller starring Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner.

In the upcoming six-part series, Turner plays the role of Joan Hannington, a notorious 1980s jewel thief who’s multifaceted life as a mother, lover, liar and thief will be the focus of the cinematic-looking drama.

Created and written by The Essex Serpent’s Anna Symon and based on the exhilarating and emotional real-life of Hannington, the show also stars Frank Dillane, Kirsty J Curtis, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr and Laura Aikman in other key roles.

ITV’s synopsis for Joan delves deeper into Turner’s character’s many lives. Joan will see the X-Men actress play: “A devoted young mother, desperate to escape a disastrous relationship.

“When her partner Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the chance to start a new life with her six- year-old daughter, Kelly.”

But Joan will also “delve deeper into the criminal underworld,” when she meets Boisie (Dillane) “an enigmatic antiques dealer whose allure introduces her to new levels of danger and passion.”

Joan’s journey is made thrilling thanks to her “sharp intelligence, irresistible charm, and a talent for impersonation” which allow her to lie her way through “a high-stakes game of survival and reinvention.”

Meanwhile: “Every heist and every stolen diamond is driven by her singular purpose: to create a secure future for her daughter.”

Turner’s involvement with the project was revealed back in November 2022, when the star said in a statement about the series: “I’m so excited to be bringing Joan Hannington’s fascinating life story to screen in Joan. She is one of the most notorious figures in the criminal underworld of London, earning her the nickname ‘The Godmother.’

“A woman who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all whilst trying to get her daughter back from social services, we see a mother in despair swept up in the exhilarating world of crime.”

Joan is coming soon to ITV1 and ITVX.
