Sir Elton John has reassured fans that he’s “healing” after dealing with a “severe” eye infection, which has left him with “limited vision” in only one eye.

The Rocket Man singer revealed the news on Instagram, with a text post that confirmed why fans haven’t seen much of the artist recently.

In the personal post, Sir Elton wrote: “Over the summer, I've been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.”

Promising fans he’s on the mend, the I’m Still Standing star added: “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.

“I’m so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”

Sir Elton then concluded: “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

Last year, Sir Elton finished off his incredible Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, having performed 330 concerts worldwide. He’s kept a relatively low profile since, but did perform earlier this year during his Oscars viewing party in March

Fans will no doubt be keeping their fingers crossed for the iconic artist as back in May, longterm lyricist Bernie Taupin teased that they were working on a brand new album

Bernie was speaking at an event at the London Palladium when he said (via The Mirror): “Elton and I have an album coming out soon. I can’t say too much about it, but it’s all written and recorded.”

Whilst we don’t know exactly when the album will be out or what shape it will take, the lyrical legend added: “I think it will surprise a lot of people and hopefully excite a lot of people.”

Sir Elton’s most recent record was 2021's The Lockdown Sessions, on which he collaborated with stars such as Miley Cyrus and Stevie Wonder.

When he joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show last year, Bernie spoke about the time that he and Elton wrote one of their most iconic songs. Referring to the 2019 Rocketman biopic,

he told Chris: “There are a couple of scenes in Rocketman that are really, really very much the way that they happened.

“The composition of Your Song in the movie is really very much the way it happened. I mean, you see Elton and I at the breakfast table, Sheila [Farebrother - Elton’s mum] is in the kitchen. You see me writing it at the table, which I did.”

Everyone at Virgin Radio wishes Sir Elton John a speedy recovery.
