Record for most Spotify streams in a day broken by The Weeknd

The record for the most Spotify streams in a single day has been broken by The Weeknd. 

In the days following its release, the Canadian singer's latest album  became the the most streamed album on the site, breaking the record on one of those days. 

Speaking to Billboard, Republic Records Co-Founder Monte Lipman praised the power of the site through supporting the singer.

He said: “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming.” 

Starboy,

which features collaborations with stars like Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, and Lana Del Ray, has shot to prominence with generally positive reviews from critics.
