2018 was an incredible year for Pale Waves, as the band released their debut album 'My Mind Makes Noises' and appeared on the same stage as The Cure at the British Summertime Hyde Park show. Singer Heather Baron-Gracie still can't quite believe their luck. "Playing with The Cure was mindblowing. They’re my favourite band and we look up to them so much, I admire Robert Smith as a songwriter and to be able to play on the same stage as them was amazing.

"Seeing Pale Waves and The Cure on the same poster was something else, sharing a stage with your icons is mad."

Playing on these big outdoor stages doesn't come without problems though, laughs Heather; "I prefer indoor shows as I'm a bit of a goth, I try and stay away from the sunlight, I don’t want to tan at all. Playing outdoor festival stages is definitely a problem for me, I look terrible with a tan." As well as The Cure, Heather has another surprising musical icon: Avril Lavigne?!  "I was obsessed with Avril Lavigne, that was my first concert in Manchester. I love her so much, I’m not afraid to admit my love for first album Avril. I wore the baggy pants and the chains. Maybe we should do an Avril cover."

The band have built up an incredibly dedicated fanbase, and for Heather it's the stuff dreams are made of. "We were just talking about this the other day. It’s bizarre that we were playing in the basement of Night & Day Café in Manchester dreaming about being a band that people would listen to and fall in love with and now it’s actually happened." Sharing arena stages with The 1975 on tour is sure to win them even more fans. 2019 is the year of the goth.IF YOU LIKE THIS:The 1975 announce huge UK arena tour for 2019WATCH: Pale Waves live in session
