2019 was an incredible year for singer-songwriters, with the likes of Sam Fender, Tom Walker, George Ezra and Lewis Capaldi dominating the charts.
A name you should be keeping an eye on for even bigger things in 2020 is Dermot Kennedy. His debut album ‘Without Fear’ went gold and spent the most weeks at number 1 in the Official Irish Albums chart, and his single ‘Outnumbered’ went to the top ten.
He played numerous sold out shows, including some of the biggest of his career far, and described it as ‘the most incredible feeling, the most beautiful way to wrap up the year’ after playing to 13,000 people a night.
It’s a remarkable rise to success, as Dermot recalls; ‘To say I’m grateful feels so hollow. To go from playing in the street wishing someone would pay attention to this feels incredible… I wouldn’t change a thing.’
He’s going international next year, with shows planned in the US. Dermot made most of his album in New York, so to say he’s excited to be playing at Radio City is an understatement.
As well as the US, he’ll be playing in Australia and tickets for his show at Malahide Castle sold out in minutes – all 25,000 of them!
2020 is set to be the year of Dermot Kennedy.
