Queen of crafts Kirstie Allsopp would be the perfect person to have around at Christmas. In fact, make that all year. Super organised, homely and talented, she could turn a piece of toilet paper into a Picasso.

The TV presenter joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky today and talked about cracking lockdown life and how she’s going to cope with the nation’s new-look Christmas.

The 49-year-old said: “People keep on saying to me, ‘What are you doing for Christmas?’ I just say, ‘I’m flexing.’

"You know when you lift something heavy and people say to flex and bend your knees? Well I think that’s what we need to do at the moment.

“I’m a planner and a control freak, I’ll fully admit it, so it’s not the easiest way to be for me but I do think we just have to try and take each day as it comes, not fight against the inability to plan.”

The presenter looked on the positive side for any Scrooges out there.

She said: “Also for a lot of people - this sounds like heresy from me - who aren’t massive fans of Christmas, a lot of people have longed to stay in bed and eat pizza on Christmas Day.”

Kirstie admitted life hasn’t been too rosey for her during lockdown either.

She explained: “Like anyone else, you have your good days and your bad days.

"You have your manic tidying days, your cooking and freezing for when you have more people in the house days, other days when you just think, ‘Lord above!’.

“I’ve been very lucky because we’ve been working on Location, Location… And Love It or List It, and then we did our brilliantly socially-distanced Christmas show.

"That was quite hard. We moved to outside in a marquee on tennis courts, marked it all two metres apart and just got on with it.”

And how does she cope with her own down moments? She said: “I have re-found walking. I do think it makes a huge difference.

"If I’m having a blah moment I just go for a walk. There’s a lot of medical evidence it makes a difference.”

The good news is that if she fancies bunking off work, she has her florist sister Sophie as backup.

"She joked: “She’s totally ace. I always say to C4, put us backwards and forwards. She’s younger and prettier than me, but we’re interchangeable.

"Phil loves her and sometimes when I feel like a day off, just take Sophie.”

Thankfully, Kirstie hasn’t always been practically perfect in every way.

"She told Chris: “One of the reasons I’m such a good present wrapper is because at an early age I learnt how to take a present, unwrap it, see what it was and wrap it back up again without anyone knowing.

“I was one of those kids who was quite well behaved, but there were certain things. I’m impatient and I hated waiting, and I just wanted to know what the presents were.

"If I could do it without getting caught, I would.”
