Prosecco is delicious, but sometimes the next morning you might wish you'd indulged a little less.

If you've ever woken up with a pounding head after a night on the fizz, you might swear never again. Many people feel like prosecco hangovers are the worst, and now wine experts are confirming this fact.

Speaking to Tyla,  Marco Castelanelli is the sommelier and co-founder and Club Vino, so it's safe to say he knows a thing or two about booze.

He says: "If you find that you get the worst headache ever after a glass or two of Prosecco, then quite simply, blame it on the bubbles. Prosecco and Champagne both contain little pockets of carbon dioxide which change how the alcohol flows through the bloodstream, helping the body to absorb the alcohol faster."

It's not you being fragile, blame the pesky bubbles!

He added: "Once in the bloodstream, the Co2 competes with oxygen which is why you might feel a little woozy and rather drunk rather quickly, leading to an exaggerated hangover in the form of a pounding head."

So what can we do to prevent the dreaded hangover? Marco advises drinking slowly, pacing yourself by alternating with a non-alcoholic drink, and never drinking bubbly on an empty stomach.

Failing that, drink a large glass of water before bed. It might sound boring, but trust us, you'll feel better for it in the morning. Nobody wants a Christmas Day hangover.
