It's the news that every Disney fan and 90s loving nun could ever dream of. Sister Act 3 is on its way back to our screens - and, praise the Lord - Whoopi Goldberg is going to be taking on the role of the well-loved non-saintly singer.

Disney delighted fans by announcing the news on Twitter. The post read: "Sister Act 3 is in development! Whoopi Goldberg returns to star and produce, with Tyler Perry as producer as well. Sister Act 3 will premiere on Disney Plus."

Whoopi will be slipping on her sparkly boots as Deloris Van Cartier, a gangster's girlfriend singer who is forced to enter a convent as part of the witness protection programme.

The 1992 original was a box office smasher followed by Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit in 1993 which both have cult followings.

The actress hinted about a return in October while talking to James Corden. She said: "For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it and then quite recently, it turns out, that may not be true. People may want to see it.

"So, we're working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back...

"Bad singing, great singing, OK singing, and then nuns. What's better than that?"
