Line of Duty fans spot BMW error in the show's long-awaited return

While viewers were delighted by the return of Sunday night's Line of Duty, the award-winning small screen hit was the talk of Twitter due to a blink-and-you'll-miss-it mistake in an important scene.

Super-fans took to social media to share their eagle-eyed discovery after the premier of the first episode of series six which involved a magically-changing car. 

New guest lead DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) was welcomed into the clan and took the lead in the murder case of journalist Gail Vella.

Amidst a foot-down-on-the-accelerator-scene to a robbery thought to be connected to the murder case, confusion came as two BMW's were seen on screen with the police investigators inside - but viewers were shocked when one of the vehicles mysteriously turned back into an old BMW model.

Taking to social media to air their confusion, one person said: "Poor continuity there, an older BMW estate making a brief appearance."

A second person added: "When did the convoy suddenly ditch one of their BMW G20 three series model for a five series E60 and then back again?"

A third wrote: "Can't be the only one who noticed the car change between shots?"

Another commented: "Sorry what was with the BMW continuity error on #LineOfDuty? Screaming obvious."

One fan added: "I do love @Line_of_duty but I’m such a car nerd that my mind was boggled by how an E60 BMW 5 series randomly appeared with 69 plates in this convoy!"

The grand return was watched by over 9.6 million people topping all previous records of 9.1 million viewers in 2019 during its series five finale. The number is sure to increase even more as viewers catch-up online.

This means Line of Duty takes a bow as the best performing drama on UK TV since Bodyguard in 2018 which had 10.4 million people glued to the finale.
