Let’s be honest, we’re all gutted that heartthrob Regé-Jean Page is leaving Bridgerton. However, there are at least four reasons to be excited about the second series of the steamy Regency romp, as Netflix has revealed they are introducing four brand new characters.
It had already been announced that the second series of the hit show will feature Simone Ashley, who you may know from her role in another Netflix drama, Sex Education. Simone will play Kate Sharma, and it’s been revealed that Shelley Conn will appear as her mum, while Charithra Chandran will play her younger sister, Edwina. Shelley recently appeared in ITV’s Liar, while Charithra has been previously seen in Alex Rider on Amazon Prime.
The two other new faces will be Rupert Young and Calam Lynch, playing Jack and Theo Sharpe. Rupert previously appeared in Merlin, and was nominated for an Olivier for his role in West End musical Dear Evan Hansen. Calam was in the acclaimed movie Dunkirk, and appeared in an episode of the excellent Derry Girls.
While we sadly won’t be seeing any more of the Duke of Hastings, Bridgerton announced on social media, via one of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, that his partner Daphne will be returning. The new series will focus on the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony, and will begin filming this Spring.
