Line of Duty's Martin Compston says finale this weekend 'might be the perfect ending'

Could we be saying a final farewell to AC-12 this Sunday? According to Martin Compston, anything's possible as series six comes to a nail-biting conclusion this weekend. While viewers are still trying to work out who H really is, Compston (DI Steve Arnott) has got fans fizzing about what's to come.

Talking on podcast Shrine of Duty, Martin said: "It's different elements this year, because we have to look it in terms of, do people want us back? You don't want to overdo it.

"Ten years in you start to think of legacy, and if it goes down that well it might be the perfect ending.

"But then we might go another couple of months and... what I will say is we won't do one just for the sake of doing it."

Show creator Jed Mercurio has stayed quiet on any budge towards a seventh series. 

Compston continued: "We don't know. That's nothing new. Jed will only do it if there's a story to be told. Jed always takes time after a series, like a couple of months.

"There's a lot of stuff above my pay grade like analytics and audience scores. He takes the emotion out of it and looks at all that."

Taking to Twitter to explain any misquotes, Compston said: "No malice think people just getting excited but for clarity. After a chat with the lovely @shrinepod few outlets going with me promising the ‘perfect ending’ on Sunday.

"To be fair most printed the actual quote which was 'if it goes down well it might be the perfect ending'.

"The script was great and we gave it our best shot but it’s not for me to pre-judge what anyone’s perfect ending might be. Anyway fingers crossed!"

With the hunt still on for H, who will it turn out to be; DCS Patricia Carmichael, Chief Constable Philip Osborne, DCI Marcus Thurwell or a completely different character?
