It’s the comeback we didn’t dare to dream of. Yes, after some time out of the spotlight following all of the drama that has surrounded him, Cuthbert the Caterpillar will be back in Aldi stores from Monday (17th May).

Cuthbert, of course, hit the headlines recently when it was announced that Marks & Spencer were taking Aldi to court because they claim that their Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake infringes the copyright of their own Colin the Caterpillar cake. This, unsurprisingly, blew up on the internet, and caused Cuthbert to go into hiding. Or, to put it another way, Aldi temporarily stopped selling the cake.

Now though, Cuthbert is back! And he’s back with a bang. Not only will he be back in stores on Monday, but Aldi have made him do a skydive in advance. As if the poor chap isn’t stressed enough!

Yes, you read that right. Aldi have got Cuthbert to jump out of a plane from 40,000ft to highlight their #CaterpillarsForCancer campaign, which is raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. There has been a JustGiving page set up for people to donate, and proceeds from the sales of the Cuthbert cakes will also go to the charity.

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi, said: “Cuthbert has been the centre of global media attention and we felt a dramatic return was called for to celebrate him coming back to our stores. And it doesn’t get more dramatic than jumping from the sky at 50mph.”

If you want to get hold of a Curthbert cake, don’t hang about. They are going to be limited edition, meaning you probably won’t see him on the Aldi shelves for very long.

Thornton went on to say, “Our loyal shoppers have really backed Cuthbert during these last few weeks and we can’t wait to bring a limited edition version of him back to reunite him with his fans and thank everyone for their support, whilst also raising money for charity, including our partner Teenage Cancer Trust.”

See you in Aldi on Monday morning!
