GMB's stand-in host Alastair Campbell found himself talking about Tony Blair's barnet on today's show during an interview with the former Labour leader. Joining Susanna Reid and Campbell, the former PM explained that his longer hair had become something of a talking point with the public.

Campbell said: "Tony, Mr Blair, I've worked with you for many, many years, we've done many events together, I've always defended you, I've always tried my best to look after your communications and image.

"So, can you explain to me how you allowed yourself to do a television interview looking like..."

"Gandalf," Susanna said.

"Gandalf is better than some of the other things I've been called," Blair admitted.

He added: "Literally, when I said to my people, 'what have we received most traffic about the last year, which one of these topics? They said, 'well actually your hair'.

Susanna remarked: "Ok, so welcome to being a woman on television…"

Co-star Alastair on his last day in the ITV seat mocked: "Are you a woman?"

Susanna continued: "Because quite frankly what you look like and what your hair looks like is probably the main thing that you get traffic about.

"You grew your hair a little longer and welcome to my world.

"A little insight to, you know, how the other half live."

Viewers commented on the subject: "Tony Blair’s long lockdown hair (now cut) attracts more comments than ANY of his institute's pioneering work on fighting Covid-19..."

Another added: "Welcome to being a woman on TV’: Tony Blair's Institute had more comments about his lockdown hair than anything else in past year."

One fan wrote: "Oh look Tony Blair has had his hair cut."

Another penned: "I've never been a fan of Tony Blair, but seriously @GMB, attacking his lockdown hair before you've barely said hi?! For one, his hair actually looked pretty cool."
