Everybody needs good neighbours, right? But this is no Ramsay Street. Two households have come to blows over bird poop left in the driveway from an overhanging tree. Graham and Irene Lee from Sheffield called in a tree surgeon to perfom a service on the soiling branches from the culprit fir tree - and it's ruffled more than a few feathers.

Neighbour Bharat Mistry said his family were "distraught" about the state of the tree after the trim which had been growing for 25 years, although there had been harsh words over the past year about the birds' mess on the neighbouring driveway.

Mr Mistry said: "We pleaded and pleaded with them not to do it, but their mind was made up. That tree was coming down."

A specialist in neighbour and land disputes at law firm Stephensons, said: "They’re perfectly entitled to do this because you’re entitled to cut off anything that overhangs and when you own property you own all of that space.

“But if the tree dies because it’s been hacked so severely, then potentially that could be criminal damage - as they’ve destroyed something that belongs to somebody else."

Fir goodness sake...
